Can Macc Play The Role Of Party Poopers?

The focus will be far from Macclesfield Town an hours’ time but their manager John Askey wants his players to play the role of party poopers.

They travel to Lincoln City looking to rain on their parade.

The Imps want to be crowned champions but Macc have other ideas for the game on BT Sport.

Paying credit to Danny Cowley’s side, Askey said there is little doubt they will win the league over the next few weeks.

But it’s their job today to put the celebrations on hold.

“We still have plenty to play for,” he said. “The players should roll their sleeves up and work hard in these remaining games starting on Saturday. We don’t want Lincoln to win the league by beating us.

“Lincoln have been excellent this year with all the games they have had to play. They have been a credit to the league and I think they deserve to win it.”

Askey told the club’s website: “It has taken them a long time to get back into the Football League, and given their budget that shows how hard it is.

“But we owe it to the other teams who are still trying to get top spot to go there and try our hardest on Saturday.”
