Blue Square Bet South club Billericay Town have announced that former Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient…..

…..captain Alton Thelwell has joined.

Defender Thelwell, 32, started his career with Spurs and went on to make eighteen first-team appearances before leaving for Hull City in June 2003, having gained England under-21 caps whilst at White Hart Lane.

Injuries hampered his time with Hull, restricting him to forty matches in four years.

He eventually moved on to Leyton Orient in January 2007 following a successful loan spell and he played seventy times for the O`s.

He was released in May 2009 and subsequently had trials at AFC Bournemouth, MK Dons and Gillingham.

He played a couple of games for Essex Senior League side London APSA to keep up his match fitness, and in October 2009 he joined Newport County.

However, two months later he joined Kettering Town but retired after nine games.

He made his comeback with Ryman League Premier Division Carshalton Athletic this season.

Also joining, after an impressive showing on Tuesday evening, is goalkeeper Luke Bartlett on loan from npower Championship side Millwall.

Both are expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday`s game against Havant & Waterlooville.
