Steve Farmer, manager of Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central club Bedworth United, says former Walsall…
….defender Ian Roper is now showing his best form for the Greenbacks.
The veteran Nuneaton-based centre half has been outstanding alongside Chris Tullin in recent games, including the 3-1 win against Aylesbury FC on Saturday.
Farmer said: “Ian is really showing his best form. His new partnership with Chris Tullin is working well.
“They complement each other well. Chris is good with the ball at his feet and Ian is a dominant ball winner.
“Ian Roper was outstanding again on Saturday. If he comes to win it then you know he’s getting there. He won 100 per cent of his headers on Saturday,” he said.
Farmer was delighted to see his side address their poor run of home form as they stayed fifth in the table.
“It was a pleasing performance in that we looked back to our best in spells. We moved the ball well and played at a good temp.
“We were disappointed with the goal we conceded so soon after scoring, but I never really felt we were going to lose.
“The enjoyment factor was back. We analysed everything in the week and looked at what we were doing right and what we were doing wrong.
“We decided the season has started again with thirteen games to go. We’ve played one and won one so it’s a positive start,” he said.
It was not all good news for the Greenbacks though as left-back Nathan Haines is out for a month with an ankle injury
“It’s the way things have been going for us. Nathan has been outstanding the last two or three games but he’s looking at about a month out.
“It’s a big blow for us and him, but it gives Jamie Greenway and Richard Wesley the chance to stake their claim,” he said.
Baker Joiner Midland Alliance neighbours Coventry Sphinx have become the latest team to express an interest in striker Matt Brown after they made a formal approach for the player, who is also on Atherstone Town’s radar.
“Without doubt I want Matt Brown to stay. He’s not played as much as he would like. We’ve got three forwards for two places so there is a great incentive to stay,” Farmer said.
“March is a big month where I expect the whole squad to play their part,” he said.
