With the new season fast approaching, North West Counties League Premier Division club Winsford United have…..

…..confirmed the signing of four quality players to strengthen the squad.

Kyle Riley has signed from Glossop North End.

He is a big strong striker who leads the line well, very intelligent with his movement, with a terrific touch for a big lad.

Riley was at Burnley as a youngster and served an apprenticeship with Oldham Athletic. His other clubs include, CF Frederico Mayo (Spain) and Ashton United.

Matty Tierney joined the club from FC United of Manchester.

He is a central midfielder with the ability to run a game with his great range of passing. He also possess a tremendous shot, as those spectators who saw the recent pre-season game against Barnton will have witnessed, with his blistering 25 yard, free kick into the top corner of the net.

Tierney was released from Manchester City and has since gone on to play for Mossley AFC and Salford City.

Alex Byrne is another signing who was ever-present in the Glossop team last season that finished in third place.

Right-back he loves to attack and creates a lot of opportunities bombing on down the right flank, also scores his fair share of goals.

Previously he was with Bury, made his debut for Mossley when he was 16 years old and was part of the Abbey Hey team that was promoted from the NWCL First Division in 2012/13.

Completing a hat-trick of signings from Glossop is the vastly experienced Gavin-Lee Ellison.

Ellison is a central midfielder who will bring with him a wealth of knowledge from his time holding down professional contracts, along with the numerous semi-pro teams he has represented throughout the non-League Pyramid system, including Blackpool, Leigh RMI, Chorley, Woodley Sports and Clitheroe.

On signing for the club, Ellison was immediately installed as captain for the coming season.

Winsford can also confirm that Shaun Came has joined the club as first-team coach.

He is a tremendous addition to the coaching staff, a local lad, who is an ex-professional previously playing for Manchester United at reserve team level and went on to play for Macclesfield Town and Winsford.

Came’s arrival has had an immediate impact within the changing room, improving the fitness of the squad whilst maintaining the technical aspects of training the players enjoy.

The club are currently speaking with a number of other players with a view to strengthening the squad for the coming season and can also confirm that a number of players from last season have committed to the club for next season including Andy Jones, Denis Sherriff, Osebi Abadaki, Dale Jennings, Mike Jones, Davison Banda and Tom Clarke.
