Thurlow Nunn League club Diss Town are set to undergo a Portuguese revolution at Brewers Green Lane with the signing of….
….three players from the Iberian Peninsula.
Thetford Town attacking duo Bruno Tavares and Valta Rocha have moved down the A1066 to Brewers Green Lane to link up again with former Brecklander Matt Dixon after all three enjoyed promotion from the First Division last season.
Meanwhile, the Tangerines are also set to beat Ryman League Premier Division club Lowestoft Town to the signature of a former Boavista midfielder, subject to international clearance.
“He’s come from Boavista reserves, went on trial with Lowestoft,” said manager Richard Daniels. “We’ve found out through the Football Association they have not put in for international clearance, so we have obviously pounced.
“He’s a central midfielder with loads of ball skills, he scores goals and works hard, so he will be a fans’ favourite.”
Daniels also managed to sell Diss to Tavares, seeing off competition from Premier Division leaders Mildenhall Town to sign Thetford’s most talented player, while Rocha took his number of additions to ten since arriving at the Tangerines earlier this month.
“The one thing I was quite stunned about when we arrived was that we were working with a squad of fourteen or fifteen players because if we got a couple of injuries we would have had it,” said Daniels, who also captured Lakenheath striker Matthew Hayden.
“Potentially, we will have it up to about twenty-five, and that will mean two or three will go out the door.”
Of those already at the club when he arrived, Daniels has been particularly impressed with the reaction of Michael Steward and captain Mark Shadrack to what he is trying to do, while centre half Aaron Taylor has thrust himself into contention for more starts with a man-of-the-match display in last week’s 1-0 defeat at Ampthill Town in the FA Vase.
“We will turn the corner, but at the moment we are not getting the rub of the green,” he added.
