Vanarama Conference newcomers Torquay United expect to pick up a windfall of around £80,000 – thanks to a transfer….
….move for former striker Billy Kee.
The Gulls sold Kee, 23, to Burton Albion three years ago for £20,000 after the East Midlands-born forward had complained he was homesick.
The Torquay manager at the time, Martin Ling, negotiated a 35 per cent sell-on fee for the former Leicester City starlet.
Kee had scored 10 goals from twenty-four starts (plus thirty appearances as a substitute) for Torquay and now, after hitting another 42 goals from seventy-nine starts for Burton, he has been sold to Sky Bet League One outfit Scunthorpe United.
The fee has not been disclosed, but it is understood to be in the region of £250,000.
Torquay’s cut represents a timely boost for their finances. It comes after they earned £40,000, under the Elite Player Performance Plan, for Academy goalkeeper Neal Osborn’s move to Premier League side Southampton.
