Conference North club Stalybridge Celtic have announced the signing of midfielder Matty Mainwaring.
Mainwaring, 24, joins from Conference Premier neighbours Chester FC, for whom he signed in February.
Mainwaring started his career as a youngster at Manchester United before attending Preston North End’s centre of excellence and then signed for Stockport County in 2008.
The Salford-born midfielder won the chance to appear on the TV show ‘Really Bend it Like Beckham’ in 2004 and got the chance to meet the former England star.
Mainwaring is a former Republic of Ireland under-19 international and made his first senior appearances at Stockport in 2008/9, before making twenty-one League One games for the club in his first season as a teenager.
He joined Hyde from Stockport after their relegation from the Conference Premier.
Mainwaring, who has also had a spell at Hull City, becomes manager Keith Briggs’ fourteenth summer signing as he fashions a new-look squad to make waves in the Conference North.
