Phil Mason has resigned as manager of ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division club….
….Wellingborough Town with immediate effect.
Formerly a combative midfielder with the likes of Newcastle United, where before injury forced him out of the professional game, Blyth Spartans, Kettering Town, Worcester City, Spennymoor United, Oxford City, Aylesbury United, Brackley Town, Boreham Wood and Banbury United before joining Woodford United initially as a player in 2003.
Mason originally committed his future to Woodford at the start of this season to begin his tenth campaign in charge at Byfield Road.
But, despite doing a tremendous job in keeping Woodford competitive in the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central on a shoestring budget, he was surprisingly relieved of his duties at the start of September after a poor start to the campaign.
He swiftly accepted the Doughboys post but, despite making a number of changes to the playing personnel, has been unable to alter the on-field fortunes, and leaves with the club second-bottom of the table.
Craig Adams, who was Mason`s assistant, has been appointed as the new manager.
The Doughboys are without a win in six and last claimed three points on October 13th when they beat Harborough Town 2-0.
Adams’ first task will be to prepare his side to face fourth-place Spalding United at the Dog & Duck on Saturday.
