Stamford AFC have won promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division after a 2-1 win over….
….Chasetown in the First Division South play-off final at Kettering Road on Friday night.
As very often happens in play-offs, it was the teams finishing fourth and fifth who battled it out for the right to go up.
A terrific crowd of 861 saw the home side get off to a great start when in the 4th minute Danny Brooks scored from a free-kick.
Stamford dominated the opening salvo with top scorer Ricky Miller going close to extending the lead with a curling effort from the edge of the area.
However, Chasetown pulled back on level terms, against the run of play, courtesy of a long-range Gary Hay strike.
It was the Scholars turn to dominate now and striker Nick Wellecomme had a great chance to give his side the lead but his shot went inches wide.
The Daniels started the second half as they had the first, with the dangerous Miller having two good chances.
The game then became a little nervy as extra-time loomed. But 10 minutes before the end, after good work from Ben Saunders, Miller scored the decisive goal to win it for the Daniels.
