Alan Dowson says he’s already sold on the team spirit at Ryman League Premier Division club…..
….Hampton & Richmond Borough but knows there’s a lot of work ahead.
The new manager took charge for the first time on Monday night against Hendon and was thrilled with Karle Carder’s late leveller that snatched a point.
Dowson stressed the need for patience while he gets his feet under the table but says there’s certainly enough to work with.
He said: “I really enjoyed Monday night, it was clearly not the ideal situation but we couldn’t change the circumstances.
“It was pleasing to see the players react well. We started and ended the game in a positive way and there were good signs. The team spirit is there, and the players play for each other. It was good to see.
“I think we have a base to build from, but it is going to take time for things to come together – it doesn’t matter if it’s Jose Mourinho walking in, there’s no such thing as a quick fix in football. There’s a reason why the club needed a new manager so we’ve got a lot to put right.
“This weekend we are at home against East Thurrock United and it’s an ideal opportunity for us to show the supporters of the club that we’re progressing.”
And there could be some new faces: “I needed to assess where we need improvement and that’s something I’m always working towards at the time.
“We managed to sign Kieran Murphy on loan from Hemel Hempstead Town in time for Monday’s match and he had a good debut. He won’t be the last new arrival but as I said before our existing players will be given their opportunity to stake a claim for a place.”
