Having fended off an approach from Vanarama Conference rivals FC Halifax Town for forward Mike Phenix, AFC Telford United….
….subsequently received an approach from Sky Bet League One side Barnsley.
The Board of Directors and manager Liam Watson were reluctant to let the player go but, as in all cases, the offer was put to the player and his wishes, to make the progression into the full-time game, were fully taken into account.
With this in mind the club reluctantly agreed to the 25-year-old`s transfer to Barnsley.
A statement from the club reads: “We have agreed a deal with cash up front and staged payments at various intervals thereafter which would make Mike the joint highest player sale in the club`s history. We have also negotiated a sell on clause and a pre-season friendly with Barnsley.
“We wish Mike all the best for the future. It has been an immense pleasure working with him. Barnsley FC have also been fantastic throughout this process.
“The manager has again been given the full backing and encouragement of the club`s Board to bring in players as he sees fit in order to ensure we build upon the win at Woking.
“We are absolutely focussed on ensuring the club remains in the Vanarama Conference and progresses as far as possible in every competition. We are working harder than ever to ensure that happens and urge as many fans as possible to positively get behind the club as we seek to re-energise ourselves on and off the pitch.”
