Retford United have applied to the KoolSport Northern Counties League for next season, and will not take their place…
…in the Evo-Stik First Division South due to financial constraints.
A statement from the club reads: “The club wish to confirm that Worksop Town will not be playing at Cannon Park during the 2011/12. We are lead to believe the Evo-Stik League/FA will be conducting a ground grade as soon as works are finished at Sandy Lane allowing the club to move back to their home.
“This will have a major impact on Retford United finances for the coming season. Without external support we cannot maintain a player budget that would be sufficient to compete at Evo-Stik League level.
“As everyone knows we have struggled this season both on and off the pitch, and to survive we must make progress on reducing our debts to our very supportive creditors.
“We have had discussions with both the Evo-Stik and KoolSport Northern Counties East leagues with a view to moving to the NCEL. The leagues are currently discussing this with the relevant personnel at the FA.
“The club has discussed the situation with joint-managers David Lloyd and John Knapper at some length and we have agreed to part company on the very best of terms.
“David and John have done a good job for the club under difficult circumstances and are thanked for their efforts and wished well for the future.”
