Carl Heeley, manager of Blue Square Bet North club Worcester City, wants his players to put a smile back on the faces….
….of fans at home to Gainsborough Trinity.
City are still smarting from a 1-0 defeat to Gloucester City on Boxing Day – the last time football will played at St George’s Lane on December 26th.
Heeley was desperate to mark the occasion with a win and is even more determined for his team to make amends in Saturday’s encounter.
City have drafted in former Hereford United midfielder Ashley Sammons to give Matt Birley more time to regain his fitness following medial ligament damage.
Sammons, 21, has been on Worcester’s radar since being released from Edgar Street earlier this season and made his debut as a second half substitute against Gloucester.
Heeley said: “It’s his first opportunity, we threw him in at the deep end a little bit but he’s got a good background and pedigree and we’ll have a closer look at him over the next few weeks.”
