Former Rugby Town manager Martin Sockett has gone back to Butlin Road to make his first signing.
The new Redditch United chief confirmed he has already had talks with the versatile Nick Heath and he will be following his old gaffer to the Valley Stadium next season.
The 25-year-old went with Sockett at the start of last term and made thirty-one appearances for the club in various positions including full-back, midfielder and on the wing.
Signed for Rugby in June 2010 as part of Sockett’s player restructuring, Heath’s departure could be the first of several to Redditch from Rugby.
“There are players at Rugby capable of stepping up and if they want to have a go then I’m willing to give them an opportunity,” said Sockett,
“Two or three come from Birmingham so there’s less travelling but what’s been pleasing is the welcome I got at Redditch and though they were relegated from Blue Square Bet North last season some of the better players want to stay on.
“I have a clean slate and a workable budget. The chairman has cleared all the debts and I can’t wait to get started.”
Sockett added: “Stepping up a flight offers a great opportunity for me and I’m determined to take it.
“I must thank the supporters and players at Rugby as they were magnificent.”
