Mikel Suarez has become the third Boston United player to leave the Blue Square Bet North club this week.

It appears that the injury-ravaged Pilgrims are making room in their squad – and finances – to bring in a defender to sure up their backline before Saturday`s trip to Stalybridge Celtic.

Spanish-born Suarez (pictured) has left to join Evo-Stik League Premier Division side Worksop Town.

The Bilbao-born Suarez was a member of last season’s promotion-winning Pilgrims, scoring ten goals in all competitions.

This season, the 6’3” striker has added a further two goals.

United`s joint boss Paul Hurst said: “We thank Mikel for his service and wish him well for the future.

“Mikel has played a key role in our success over the last eighteen months, but his injury in pre-season ensured he faced an uphill task to get back up to speed this season.

“The player recently expressed a desire to move elsewhere in search of more regular first team football and we have taken the mutual decision to cancel his contract and allow Mikel to continue his career — albeit at a slightly lower level.”

Also departing this week were Shane Clancey and Cecil Nyoni.

Winger Clancy has joined Hereward Teamwear United Counties League side Sleaford Town after failing to break into the first-team this season, while Nyoni – on loan from Sheffield Wednesday – decided he did not want to continue playing for United.
