David Hewson, joint-manager of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division club Workington AFC, couldn’t hide his delight when three key members of the squad agreed terms for next season.
Aaran Taylor, Scott Allison and Josh Calvert, all of whom have attracted interest from other clubs in recent months, signed contracts which will keep them at Borough Park for the next twelve months at least.
It follows the signing of Conor Tinnion earlier in the week as management attempt to get the squad ‘on board’ before the summer holidays start in earnest.
Taylor, an ever-present in last season’s league campaign, kept a clean sheet in six consecutive games during April, nineteen in total, and skippered the side on several occasions.
Allison will start his fifth season with the club following his arrival in 2013 and he improves year by year. He has now scored 63 goals for Reds including 14 last term when a niggling injury hampered his progress somewhat.
Calvert has enjoyed three excellent seasons with the club, quickly racking-up a century of league appearances and collecting the young player of the year award twice during that period.
Further talks with other members of the squad are planned but early indications suggest the majority are happy to stay which is certainly good news for Hewson and Andrews and the club’s fan base.
