Josh Warren has joined Ryman League Premier Division club Bognor Regis Town from npower League One side Portsmouth
At over six feet tall, 18-year-old Warren plays at centre half for Pompey’s reserve and academy sides and this will be his first experience of a loan away from Fratton Park.
He has signed on `work experience` forms which means he can continue to play and train with Portsmouth whilst turning out for the Rocks.
An added bonus for the Rocks is that Warren is eligible for selection for the Sussex Senior Cup semi-final.
The relationship between the two clubs continues to strengthen, with Portsmouth able to play a number of their Academy matches at Nyewood Lane, and the likelihood that a date will soon be agreed for a pre-season friendly against the Pompey first-team in July.
Meanwhile, the club has announced that both Ben Andrews and Nick Jordan have left the Rocks.
In both cases continuing long-term injuries have meant that neither could realistically expect to play again this season.
Andrews joined the Rocks eighteen months ago and when fit proved to be not only an inspirational central defender, but also capable of playing effectively up front.
Sadly his long-term knee injury has now worsened and he will not be able to play again this season. As he had already announced that he intended to retire at the end of the season, his contract has now been terminated by mutual consent.
Jordan arrived at Nyewood Lane six weeks ago following Craig Stoner’s injury. However, he has been carrying a shoulder injury himself over the past few weeks which has now worsened. It is clear that this will not recover if he continues to play, and he will therefore not be available again this season.
Manager Jamie Howell expressed his disappointment on behalf of both players, and also on behalf of supporters who have stayed remarkably loyal despite the horrendous injury list which has blighted the season.
He has assured supporters that every effort is being made to bring in new players who can benefit the team, as in the case of Simon Woods, a striker from Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) side AFC Portchester.
Woods has already scored twenty-two goals this season.
