Thirteen of the nineteen Boxing Day matches in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League were postponed….
…..but there was plenty of drama in those games which went ahead.
The Premier Division match of the season so far saw Holbeach United open up a twelve-point lead at the top with a 2-1 Carters Park defeat of Spalding United.
Jonny Allen’s 2nd minute Tigers opener was cancelled out by TJ Nightingale after 32 minutes but Andy Tidswell won it with his twenty-second goal of the season 3 minutes into the second half.
The Tulips slip to fifth place behind Deeping Rangers, who beat managerless Blackstones 3-0 at Outgang Road with a Lewis Stone opener and two in 2 minutes from Alex Beck – all the goals scored in the second half.
Boston Town picked up a first win in five outings with a 2-1 success at Sleaford Town.
Just 4 minutes remained when Lorand Borbely gave the Poachers the lead, but they were pegged back by a Kris Jones reply from the halfway line.
Borbely’s second goal of the afternoon proved decisive NINE minutes into added time.
In Division One the section’s top scorer Martin Wormall of Harrowby United took his season’s tally to twenty with a hat-trick as the Arrows beat Bourne Town 3-2 at the Abbey Lawn.
The Wakes fought back through Alec Robinson and Ben Easson but were unable to prevent a first defeat in five outings.
Rushden & Higham United outgunned Thrapston Town 4-3 at Hayden Road where Ben Lord’s goal deep into stoppage time settled the contest in the Lankies’ favour.
Lewis O’Dell, Craig Harrower and Daryl Lawman were the other home marksmen with Ben Sunderland, Callum Noble and Danny Darker replying for Thrapston.
New Olney Town boss Ed Wheatley kicked off his reign with a 1-1 draw at ON Chenecks where Steve Watson’s second half goal earned the Nurserymen their point after they trailed to a first half Harry Barnes opener.
