Former Preston winger Simon Whaley has joined Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division newcomers Chorley…

….and made his debut in the 6-0 thrashing of Frickley Athletic on Tuesday night, creating the last two goals in an appearance from the bench.

Having started his playing career at Bury, netting eleven goals on seventy-three appearances for the Gigg Lane outfit, he then moved to the Championship side Preston for £300,000 in January 2006 and went on to play 120 times for the Lilywhites, bagging fourteen goals

While at Deepdale, Whaley had a brief loan spell at Barnsley before playing joining Norwich City for a reported £250,000, then going on to Bradford City, Chesterfield and Burton Albion following his departure from Preston.

Whaley is seen a massive signing for Chorley as he was playing Championship football just two seasons ago.
