Television star Mark Wright is to buy a 20% stake in the Ryman League’s Billericay Town.
The Reality TV favourite became the club’s assistant manager as a one off earlier this month.
Friends with chairman Glenn Tamplin, Wright has been invited to play a big part in the club’s future.
According to The Sun newspaper this morning, the ex England C player will come on board as a director and will help raise the profile of the Blues.
Wright is certainly no stranger to the Non-League game. He turned out for Grays, St Albans, Heybridge and Thurrock before finding fame on The Only Way Is Essex. He is married to actress Michelle Keegan and also works as a presenter.
The 30-year-old was also a runner up on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!
Billericay’s weekly playing budget under Tamplin, who has announced he would manage the club, is reported to be over £10,000 a week.
That is likely to increase next season when the owner/manager, who according to the paper is said to be worth £40 million, continues to build a squad good enough to win the league.
They signed former England defender Paul Konchesky at the end of February and there are plans for more big name additions.
A source told The Sun: “They have been friends for some time now and he believes having a famous face involved could give the club a publicity boost.”
