Brightlingsea Regent may be looking strong in their quest to capture the Ryman North championship.

But manager James Webster has revealed winning the league was not their pre-season remit.

Regent have had a wonderful year and they have surpassed all expectations place on them by highly-rated boss Webster.

The countdown is on and 13 more points will see them crowned champions and promoted, of course, to the Ryman Premier.

“Our target at the start of season was to finish 5th and nothing has changed from that respect,” the manager said.

“We are in a fantastic position going into our last 7 games and we’re full of confidence.

“But we have some very tough fixtures coming up and we won’t get ahead of ourselves, we’re keeping our feet firmly on the ground.

“We only look to our next opponents and we will prepare properly for each game something that’s been hard to do with the relentless fixture schedule to date.”

Fixture backlog is always a problem at this time on the year but one thing on Brightlingsea’s side is the fact that they are now playing Saturday to Saturday.

“We have no midweek matches now which will really help us,” Webster added. “It’s an exciting time for us and we just need to keep winning.”
