Bastock Duly Becomes A World Record Holder

Paul Bastock duly created world football history on Saturday as he made his 1,250th appearance to help ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division club Wisbech Town into the Third Round of the Buildbase FA Vase.

The Fenmen beat Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Thetford Town 4-1.

Sadly, there was no clean sheet for Bastock, but Wisbech`s unbeaten run stretched to fourteen matches since Gary Setchell took over as manager.

Bastock received a pre-match message from former England star Peter Shilton, whose record he has now taken.

And Bastock watched as goals from Alex Beck, Billy Smith, Josh Ford and Michael Frew took Wisbech 4-0 ahead.

The gloss was taken off the day by a straight red card for the Fenmen`s Ford and spoiled Bastock`s clean sheet as Dave Tanner beat the 47-year-old from the resulting penalty.

Who knows, Bastock`s record-breaking campaign could end up with a Wembley visit in May!

(A round-up of the Vase ties will follow later).
