Melksham Town came through their Buildbase FA Vase Third Round replay on Monday night against Toolstation Western League Premier Division rivals Bridgwater Town.
After a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Fairfax Park on Saturday, another tight contest was anticipated at the Oakfield Stadium between two fairly evenly-matched teams.
But the game was only 6 minutes in when the home side took the lead in rather fortunate circumstances as Luke Ballinger`s corner went straight in at far post.
Gary Higdon came close to making it 2-0 but his shot hit the post and rebounded to safety.
As on Saturday, this was a tight encounter and Bridgwater were always in the tie, until 8 minutes from time when Melksham grabbed a second a crucial goal.
And it was former Chippenham Town and Gloucester City striker Ballinger who was on target again.
The England futsal record holder with 100 caps may have been fortunate with his opener, but fired the second from 25 yards.
Melksham will be at home to Southern Counties East League Premier Division side Crowborough Athletic in the Fourth Round on January 6th.
