Bostik League South club Dorking Wanderers have announced the signing of versatile defender JJ O’Sullivan from Bostik South neighbours South Park.
The 27-year-old has played over 320 games and has been a mainstay of the South Park squad as it has risen through the leagues, but now makes another step up to join Dorking in the Premier Division.
“It’s certainly tough to leave South Park after all these years and with many good memories,” O’Sullivan told Dorking`s official website. “I feel I’ve been incredibly loyal to the club helping it progress to the standard it’s now reached, but I’m 27 now and need to take this opportunity to test myself at this higher level before I get past my peak. I hope supporters will understand that personal decision.”
Welcoming the new arrival, Dorking manager Marc White said: “Obviously we’re looking at signing players with a view to next season now and JJ brings the tenacity and leadership I think we need if we’re going to push on and compete for promotion to the National League.
“He’s an excellent technical footballer and has been one of the leading lights at South Park over the years. He’s spent a bit of time injured this season so is going to have to do a lot of work to meet the physical demands of the Bostik Premier Division but I’ve absolutely no doubt he can make the step up and be a great addition to the team.”
O’Sullivan will train with his new team-mates for the first time this evening and be in consideration for a place in the squad for Saturday’s home league fixture against Kingstonian at Westhumble.
