Midland League Premier Division club Alvechurch`s management team have agreed terms for a new two-year contract which secures their services until 2019.
Chairman Richard Thorndike said: “We are delighted to announce that the management team of Ian Long, assistant Richard Colwell and goalkeeper coach Chris Walwyn have agreed terms for a new two-year contract which secures their services until 2019.
“It was our priority to get Longy and his backroom staff on contract as early as we could to stave off approaches from other clubs. We haven’t finished the season yet and we’ve already had an enquiry from a big club at Step 3 and there are several other clubs who would be interested, so it was important that we got their commitment to us and ours to them sorted out as we enter an extremely important chapter in the club’s history.
“Apart from the success of being runners-up last year and winning the league this campaign, it is clear that we have been extremely impressed with the professionalism they bring to all aspects of their respective roles and the Church faithful have been treated to some really entertaining football and some sublime goals during their time here.
“With this out of the way early, we can all relax and prepare ourselves for the semi-final of the JW Hunt Cup next Wednesday evening, the League Cup final on 15th May at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium as well as a potential final at The Molineux on 23rd May. There could be an historic treble on the cards for us and who’d have thought we’d be saying that a few seasons ago? We’re in dreamland!”
The Midland League will be presenting the trophy for winning the Premier Division to the team after the last league fixture of the season at home to Rocester. Hopefully we’ll see as many Church fans there on the day to join in with our celebrations”.
