Evo-Stik League North club Ossett Albion have announced the appointment of Andy Welsh as their new first-team manager.

He takes over from Dave Haley, who left by mutual consent recently.

Welsh became head coach at Albion three months ago upon the appointment of Haley.

The 34-year-old started his career with Stockport County, where he progressed to make seventy-five first-team appearances.

He transferred to Sunderland in November 2004 and stayed three years, making twenty-five appearances as well as having two spells on loan with Leicester City.

He then spent a year in the MLS with Toronto before returning to England to have spells with Blackpool, Yeovil Town, Carlisle United and Sscunthorpe United, adding more than 150 games to his total tally.

In September 2014 he signed for FC United of Manchester and then returned to Yorkshire to Farsley Celtic four months later.

Welsh will also take the role of academy manager at the Unita Academy.

The club are now accepting CV’s for the role of assistant-manager.
