Burr: Stalybridge Need a Victory ASAP

Steve Burr has spoken about the challenge facing him on his return to Stalybridge Celtic – and he knows the size of the task in hand.

The former Kidderminster manager is back in the game a week after being given the push by Southport despite a good record at Haig Avenue.

Celtic are 12 points away from safety in Vanarama National League North and are facing relegation unless their form picks up….and fast.

Burr, their new manager, is experienced enough to know how difficult it will be to turn things around at Bower Fold.

But he refuses to accept they are already down – and wants that first victory to arrive sooner rather than later.

Burr said: “They’ve not been winning matches so there’s a bit of doom and gloom about the place obviously, but it’s a good club with a lot of good people there.

“Rob Gorski’s been there for the duration of the time since he took me there in the first place. I really did enjoy working with him. Like all chairmen he has an opinion, but I know how much he wants success.

“We need to start winning games and hopefully I can turn the defeats into wins – the sooner the better because we have to climb that table quickly and we know that.”

Burr starts his latest spell in charge with a cup game against Salford City on Tuesday.

His first league game is against the same opposition and Stalybridge travel to the title hopefuls next Saturday knowing a defeat will damage their survival hopes.
