Future`s Bright at Boreham Wood

After the dust settled down after the euphoria of Tuesday night’s fantastic 5-0 win by Boreham Wood against Vanarama National League rivals Sutton United in the Buildbase FA Trophy replay, one boy had….

….particular reason to come to training on Thursday with a huge smile on his face to go alongside the black eye he earned during the win.

Academy and England captain Ben Goodliffe made his full first-team debut for Wood in the victory, he came to training with an extra spring in his step and showed just why the academy staff feel they have at their disposal the most promising crop of players in many years.

Goodliffe, who took to first-team football like a duck to water and vindicated first-team manager Luke Garrard`s decision to throw the 17-year-old into the most important fixture in the Wood`s season.

He joined the club as a 16-year-old, he had just been released from Tottenham Hotspur, and found himself at home within the Woods` academy and has grown in his time at Meadow Park into the academy captain, England captain and now pushing to become a regular in Garrard`s starting eleven.

With six academy players now on first-team contracts and three England internationals, the future is bright for the club.
