The new Gateshead boss Steve Watson says taking over at the North-East club was an easy decision writes Tom Feaheny.

Watson who was previously with Vanarama National League leaders Macclesfield Town, takes this as his first managerial role.

“Belief is going to be key for this group, I want people to come here, we know we have to entertain and get positive results, it is a winning cycle, I think I can bring,” said Watson.

“I am proud to be in this position, the North-East of England is somewhere that I have a massive affinity with, I saw the opportunity to take this and I am delighted to be given this role.”

“I have spoken to the chairman who has the aim of being in the Football League, I like that ambition.”

Watson said leaving Macclesfield the way he has made the decision easier.

“I am ambitious in wanting to take on a managers job but I leave Macclesfield knowing I did a good job, they are top of the league and have John there who will continue to do well.”
