Ossett United, the new Evo-Stik League North club to come out of the merger of Ossett Town and Ossett Albion, have announced Andy Welsh as first-team manager for season 2018/19.

Welsh, who took over at Ossett Albion in November, has only lost three games and picked up twenty-eight points leading to him and Albion winning the Evo-Stik League North team of the month for March.

For now, he will continue with Ossett Albion and finish the season as strong as physically possible.

“I am delighted to be offered the role and look forward very much to such an exciting project. Recruitment and pre-season plans are already at the top of my agenda and I will be working hard to build a team who can deliver the expected results next season. For now, I must concentrate on the job in hand and that is taking my side to Ramsbottom this evening and preparing for the visit of South Shields this weekend,” Welsh told the club`s Pitchero website.

The new club`s chief executive Phil Smith said: “We discussed the expectations and the plans for the club with Andy Welsh and Lee Ashforth in great detail and both managers showed extreme understanding of the job requirements and what we were asking of them.

“We looked at many different facets of both managers backgrounds, ability and results and ultimately we are satisfied that we have chosen the right person.

“We wish Lee Ashforth all the very best and he has been nothing short of professional and honest during this period.”

Ossett United who will play out of Ingfield next season have already started planning their pre-season activity.
