A busy close-season continues as Vanarama National League North club Salford City sign former Blackburn Rovers left-back Josh Askew

Nineteen-year-old left-back or wing-back Josh Askew has agreed to join The Ammies after being released by Blackburn Rovers, who were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship.

Askew is combative, determined defender who progressed through the Ewood Park academy and stepped up to Rovers’ under-21 development squad at the start of last season.

He was a key player for the academy side during their run to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup during the 2015/16 season and joined Salford`s Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North neighbours Ramsbottom United on loan in October 2016.

A string of fine performances saw that loan spell extended and Askew picked up the Rams’ December player-of-the-month award.

A highly-rated young player, he is determined to claim the Moor Lane left-back berth as his own.
