Central defensive trio Dom Smith, Alex Morris and Joe Haines and young midfielder Mitchell Evans have become Midland League Division One club Hinckley AFC`s first summer signings ahead of 2017/18.

Smith and Morris struck up a dominant partnership at the heart of the defence during the club’s twenty-seven-game unbeaten run in 2014/15, keeping eight clean sheets together during that spell.

Between them, the pair made ninety-nine appearances during their first spells at the club, with their contributions not just limited to the defensive third.

They also had a happy knack of popping up with vital goals, Smith scoring memorable late winners at Pershore Town and Bromsgrove Sporting, while Morris netted in the 3-2 win at Pelsall Villa that year.

Smith won the supporters’ player of the month award for February 2015, while Morris won it the following month as both asserted themselves as two vital members of the squad.

Smith left for Lye Town early in 2015/16, but had little game time after picking up a knee injury.

He spent the latter half of last season with West Midlands (Regional) leaguers Willenhall Town.

Haines and Evans have been training with the club this pre-season and have now signed forms.

Haines is an attack-minded left-back who can also play on the wing, and joins from Lichfield City.

He spent two and a half years at Lichfield, either side of a spell at Bromsgrove Sporting during their title-winning season last term.

He also counts Walsall Wood amongst his former clubs.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Evans is a talent who greatly excites manager Carl Abbott, joining from Vanarama National League North play-off semi-finalists Kidderminster Harriers.

The central midfielder was promoted from Kidderminster’s academy in time to come on as a substitute in their 6-0 Emirates FA Cup win over Weymouth last term.

He was also an unused substitute in their defeat to League Two side Blackpool later in the same competition.
