New-Look Hayes & Yeading Start Life At New Ground With A Draw

Paul Hughes’ totally new-look Hayes & Yeading United side opened the new Evo-Stik League South East campaign with a hard-fought point from a 1-1 draw at their new SKYex Stadium against Aylesbury FC.

Over half the starting line-up were new signing, while the bench contained five new arrivals.

Mat Mitchell-King, Manny Duku, Harley Wise, Jack Smith, Danny May, Spyros Mentis, Matt Stockill, Danny Blanchett, Alex Armstrong, Gabby Adelowo, David Pitt and Luke Daley were all involved either from the start or on the bench, while Steve Cairns, Orlando Rodrigues and Mergim Qarri are also newcomers not involved on Saturday.

Vastly experienced defender Mitchell-King joined United from Mildenhall Town.

He spent four years with Histon, making the best part of 150 appearances before taking the chance to turn professional with Crewe Alexandra in June 2009.

He made his debut at Dagenham & Redbridge on the opening day and spent two seasons with the Alex before joining then newly-promoted AFC Wimbledon.

After two years with the Dons he moved to Dartford for a further two years before spending time with St Neots Town, Hemel Hempstead Town and Chesham United, for whom he appeared against United last season.

Duku is a 24-year-old Dutch-born striker who joined the club from Evo-Stik League South Premier side Banbury United.

He was born and played his early football in Holland, most recently with VV Eemdijk and FC Breukelen, until moving to the UK for the start of season 2015/16.

He spent the first few months of that season with Chesham before moving in December 2015 to Kings Langley, establishing himself as a regular in the side that won promotion to the Southern Premier.

Wise is a 21-year-old former Queens Park Rangers central defender.

He started out in the youth system at Loftus Road, signing his first professional deal in March 2014.

After leaving the Rs, he played a handful of games in the Vanarama National League South for Hemel Hemsptead before he signed with League Two side Hartlepool United in October 2016, making his debut the following month against Rochdale in the EFL Trophy.

Following his release by the Pools, he signed with Bostik Premier side Dulwich Hamlet from whom he joined United.

Smith is a 24-year-old goalkeeper who joined having impressed against United last season for Dunstable Town.

He started out in the youth set-up at Watford before moving to Swindon Town and then Hemel Hempstead, making his first-team debut while still playing for the Tudors at under-18 level.

While with the Tudors he made a handful of appearances for Dunstable and after leaving Hemel he signed for Spartan South Midlands Leaguers London Colney.

This was followed by spells with Ware, Berkhamsted and London Colney again before settling at Dunstable last season where he made the number one shirt his own.

Tom Smith is the twin brother of Jack, who joins from Barton Rovers where he was the defensive rock of a side who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Southern Premier last season after finishing third.

He started out with Harpenden Town before moving to London Colney where he made in excess of 100 appearances before moving on to Barton at the start of last season.

He was appointed club captain at the commencement of the current campaign.

May is a 28-year-old defender who joined United having spent two successful years with Royston Town where he was an integral part of their promotion-winning campaign last season.

He came through the Northampton Town youth system, making his debut for the Cobblers in April 2007 against Chesterfield.

Brief stays at Wivenhoe Town and Enfield Town followed before he settled with Hemel Hempstead for whom he made in excess of 250 appearances.

From the Tudors, he had a couple of spells with Kings Langley, interspersed with a stint at Dunstable before moving to Royston a couple of seasons ago.

Mentis followed May from Garden Walk after helping Royston to promotion last season.

A skilful 23-year-old midfielder, prior to joining Royston he had spells at St Albans City, making his debut as a 16-year-old, and Takeley.

He also spent a short time at Soham Town Rangers last season.

Stockill is a 19-year-old midfielder who joined on the eve of the campaign from Uhlsport Hellenic League side Flackwell Heath.

He started in the youth ranks at Craven Cottage with Fulham before moving north and joining the youth set-up at Scunthorpe United where he was often deployed as a wing-back.

Has also played for Holmer Green.

Blanchett is an experienced 30-year-old defender who was with National League South side Chelmsford City last season.

He started in the youth system at Queens Park Rangers before moving into the non-League arena with short stays at Northwood, Hendon and Harrow Borough.

In March 2006, he joined Cambridge City from where he had a trial with Liverpool before being signed for an undisclosed fee by Peterborough United.

Spells at Crewe Alexandra, Burton Albion and York City followed before a return to Cambridge City in January 2013.

In June of the same year he moved to Havant & Waterlooville, spending three years with them before moving to Chelmsford at the start of last season.

Armstrong is a 19-year-old midfield player who joined on the eve of the current campaign.

He played as a schoolboy with both Fulham and Wycombe Wanderers before moving to the Luton Town academy, signing his first professional contract with the Hatters last summer having been part of the Luton under-18 side who won the South-East Division title and the Football League Youth Alliance Cup.

He spent time locally on a youth loan with Hanwell Town late in 2016.

Adelowo is a 20-year-old former QPR central defender who joined after leaving Billericay Town at the end of last season.

From Rangers, he joined Aldershot Town where he captained their under-19 side before signing with Billericay at the start of last season.

Adelowo, who can also play at full-back or in the centre of the park, also had a loan spell with Canvey Island last season.

Pitt is a 25-year-old striker who ended last season with National League North outfit Brackley Town.

He started in the youth system with Brentford before going on to play in several countries including Cyprus, Romania, Albania and Greece.

On his return to the UK he joined Ascot United, moving to Brackley before trialling with Hemel Hempstead this summer, scoring against United in a friendly, before taking up a successful trial with United later in pre-season.

Has international honours with St Vincent & Grenadines, making his debut in a 2016 World Cup qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago.

Former Hayes & Yeading under-18 goalkeeper Daley has returned to the club this summer from Ashford Town (Middx) to act as back-up to Jack Smith and Danny Boness.

The now 24-year-old has also played for Chertsey Town.

Cairns is a 17-year-old midfielder who was a part of the Barnet under-18 side who won last season`s Jeff Ritson Senior Youth Cup and comes to United to push forwards his career at senior level.

Rodrigues is a 22-year-old defender who joined Hayes & Yeading after showing well during pre-season.

He started out with Oxhey Jets before moving on to play for Wealdstone, Northwood, Hanwell Town, North Greenford United and Southall.

Qarri is a 21-year-old attacking midfielder who has recently been a member of the development squad at Championship side Brentford and prior to this was with Stevenage, Watford and Wealdstone.
