Having earlier today announced the retention of Adriano Moke, Vanarama National League North new boys York City have revealed the return of experienced striker Michael Rankine and the permanent signing of defener Hamza Bencherif.

Rankine re-joins the Minstermen for a third spell at Bootham Crescent.

Having made almost 100 appearances for City already, Rankine is a familiar face to most fans, and he joins on a one-year deal.

Rankine, 32, played last season at Guiseley AFC having taken in spells at Gateshead, Hereford United, Altrincham and Aldershot Town, among others.

The striker already has 20 league goals to his name with the Minstermen, something which he will be hoping to add to this season.

Meanwhile, York have announced that Bencherif has signed a one-year contract to stay with the Minstermen next season.

The 6`3” defender began his career with Nottingham Forest. However, after failing to make a senior appearance for the Midlands outfit and experiencing a twelve-game loan spell with then League Two Lincoln City in late 2007, he was released from the City Ground in 2009.

The 28-year-old was quickly snapped up by Macclesfield Town, a club where he would spend the next two seasons, scoring 16 goals in sixty appearances.

A two-year stay at Notts County followed before Bencherif spent a campaign each with Plymouth Argyle and Lincoln.

After departing Sincil Bank at the end of the 2014/15 campaign, the defender joined FC Halifax Town ahead of the new season and helped the West Yorkshire win the FA Trophy with victory over Grimsby Town in the final.

Hamza Bencherif

Following the conclusion of his deal at The Shay, Bencherif linked up with current City boss Gary Mills at Wrexham last summer and over the course of the current campaign played twenty-six games for the Dragons, before his move to Bootham Crescent.

Bencherif was a near-ever-present since his loan signing, and has now signed a permanent deal to stay with City.

Bencherif was a member of the Buildbase FA Trophy-winning squad at Wembley, making a vital goalline headed clearance in the process.
