It`s all change at Crawley Down Gatwick but new manager Simon Wormull insists he is happy to build his own team at…..
….the Ryman League Division One South club.
Last week, former captain Fraser Logan signed for Wormull’s old club Lewes, adding his name to the many departures from the side John Maggs had last season.
Earlier this month, Byron Napper, Jamie Cade, and Ross Morley all signed for league rivals Horsham.
However, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Wormull has been busy rebuilding the side and has added four new players this week.
Centre back Chris Breach, goalkeeper Kieron Thorp and midfielder Bradley Lewis all join from Ryman Premier side Lewes – the club from which Wormull was sacked at the end of last season.
And striker Ashley Robinson joins from another Ryman Premier club – Bognor Regis Town.
“I’m really pleased with the players we have signed – I’ve had some good players contact me,” Wormull said. “I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t be able to attract such good players, making the step down, but the response has been brilliant.
“We have had a bit of a mass exodus but we had forty-six players turn up to the open trials so I’m not worried about rebuilding. Players come and go, that is the nature of football.”
“I think the players know we are going to play good football. That is proving to be more of a draw than money which is pleasing to see.”
And despite only being weeks into the job, Wormull has set himself some loft targets.
“I think every club starts off saying they want at least the play-offs but I want to put that pressure on myself,” he said. “I know the players I have signed are winners so I’m willing to put my neck out and say we will be up there.”
