Andover Ground Passes the Test

Andover Town’s Portway Stadium has been given the green light for promotion by the Southern League’s ground grading team.

The Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier Division club had to complete minor changes, including the widening of the pitch and the installation of a press bench, to get their headquarters up to Step 4 standard.

But Town are not content to stop there.

Club officials hope to complete some changes of their own over the summer, getting the currently unused West Stand into operation to make a four-sided stadium.

With Salisbury FC having already claimed top spot in the Premier Division, third-placed Andover are doggedly pursuing Blackfield & Langley for runners-up place, hoping two clubs might be accepted into the Southern League.

Neil Benson’s men are on fire right now with Saturday’s 3-0 win at Lymington Town extending their unbeaten run to fifteen games.

Tonight they host Alresford Town, who cannot now escape the bottom two after losing 5-2 at home to Blackfield on Saturday.
