Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division Blyth Spartans` Jarrett Rivers, recently voted as the league`s young player of the year, has signed for Blackpool, who were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship.
Blyth announced that the former Middlesbrough and Whitley Bay player, one of the stars of the club’s FA Cup run last season, had left Croft Park for an undisclosed fee.
The deal that takes the 21-year-old to Bloomfield Road includes a sell-on clause as well as agreement for the Tangerines to travel to the North East to take on the Spartans in a pre-season friendly on July 14th.
In a statement released by Spartans, manager Tom Wade expressed his delight for Rivers who scored a sensational late winner in the club’s dramatic 2-1 FA Cup second round victory at Hartlepool United.
Wade said: “Jarrett has been an absolute pleasure to deal with since joining us last season. He struggled to get into the side at first but he went on to establish himself as a regular in the team.
“He’s a great guy and has been outstanding for us. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him to get in to professional football. As the Northern Premier League young player of the year for last season Blackpool are getting an extremely skilful player.
“No doubt about it, Jarrett is one of the brightest young talents around. Everyone at Blyth Spartans thanks him for his time with us and wishes him all the very best for the future!”
Rivers said: “I’d like to thank Tom Wade for giving me the chance to play at NPL level as well as all the backroom staff, players and fans at Croft Park.
“Everyone has given me so much support at Blyth! It’s been great and I will take with me so many memories that will last forever. I wish the whole club the best of luck for the future.”
