Boss Reckons Reds Deserved Better

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law was left reflecting on one mistake which cost his side dear in Tuesday’s 1-0 Blue….

….Square Bet Premier Division defeat at AFC Telford United.

The Reds boss felt his side deserved something from the game but one defensive error was taken advantage of by the hosts and left Alfreton empty handed.

Law said: “We are disappointed to have come away without anything. I thought we deserved something but we made one mistake again and got punished.

“Last night at Telford we were never in danger. We were in the game, comfortable without creating a great deal, but we are lacking a cutting edge whichever combination we play together at the minute.

“We had to make a change due to an injury to Theo Streete at half time but we coped with it.
“Then Adie Hawes got caught in two minds and instead of dealing with it, he doesn’t and it has cost us.”

“Telford is not a happy hunting ground for us, but there again, if feels like nowhere is at the minute.

“We have improved all the time and could easily have had something from Telford. Jake Moult had a close range shot saved somehow, Josh Law hit a free-kick which smacked against an upright and bounced the other way and Andy Holdsworth hit a dipping volley which their keeper has tipped over the bar.

Law went into the Telford game with two strikers suspended in Nathan Jarman and Drewe Broughton and another four players out injured.

He then had to substitute central defender Theo Streete with a back injury and also lost son Josh with a recurrence of a groin injury he suffered earlier in the season.

Levi Mackin and Matt Wilson both exited last Saturday’s 2-2 home draw with Ebbsfleet United prematurely with hamstring and hip injuries respectively.

Law has extended the loan spell of striker James Ellison from Burton Albion by another month but insists he is still looking to bring in another forward.

He added: “We don’t seem able to open anything up at the moment and when chances do drop we are not taking them.

“That is the difference at this level. I do think we need players in on loan, but it is finding the right players at the right price.

“You look at the results from Tuesday. Southport bounce back from conceding four and hit three without reply at Darlington and Ebbsfleet United hit three as well. We don’t look like we have got three goals in us. You have just got to look at the stats, they don’t lie”
