Ebac Northern League First Division club Newcastle Benfield have appointed Steve Bowey for the second time as….

….manager, and he celebrated his return to the club with a 5-1 home win over Billingham Synthonia on Saturday.

Bowey quit in May to become coach at league rivals Consett, but the club gave him the job again following the midweek departure of Neil Saxton.

Despite being born in County Durham, Bowey`s playing days began with Forest Green Rovers.

He then embarked on a well-travelled career taking in stops at Bristol Rovers, Gateshead, Queen of the South, York City, Gateshead again, Newcastle Blue Star, Bedlington Terriers, Aye United, Harrogate Town and then Newcastle Benfield, who he first joined as a player in the summer of 2011.

He took over as player-manager in October 2012 and the highlight of his reign was their defeat of holders Spennymoor Town in the last sixteen of the FA Vase.
