Coasters Move for Daniels

New AFC Fylde signing Brendon Daniels insists the ambition of the Vanarama National League North club was the driving force behind his switch from league rivals Harrogate Town.

The former Crewe Alexandra winger becomes the club’s second signing of the summer and joins the Coasters on a three-year deal.

Daniels finished last season as player of the year at Harrogate after netting 22 league goals as Town finished fourth.

The 22-year-old admitted he was ‘buzzing’ as he signed his contract and said: “I can’t wait to get started. I would like to thank the chairman and the manager for showing great faith in me.

“The vision of the club and where they want to be is very impressive and I want to help them achieve their goals.

“I knew there was interest back in January when Fylde first put a bid in, but I’ve had to wait until the end of the season for a deal to be done.

“I spoke to the manager and the chairman and everything they had to say was very positive so I’m delighted to have got it all sorted.

“I had offers from other clubs, but none of them were as appealing as what Fylde had to offer so it was a no-brainer for me really.

“Harrogate wanted me to stay but what I was told at Fylde was far more positive and exciting and they really sold it to me.

“I enjoyed my time at Harrogate but it was time to move on and now I want to replicate my form here.”

Daniels, who won his first cap for the England C team in a 2-0 victory over Ukraine in Kiev back in March, has already set his targets and is confident of success with the Coasters.

“The new stadium was of course a big draw for me and their ambition and plans over the next few years sounded like something I wanted to be involved with. I’ve seen all the plans for the new ground and it looks amazing. I can’t wait to be playing there.

“First and foremost I want to help the club get promoted and personally I’d like to see my name up there at the top of the goalscoring charts again next season.

“I’ve signed a three-year deal and I’d love to see the club reach the Football League in that time.”

Talking of his style of play, Daniels said: “I like to play with a lot of flair and score goals wherever the manager plays me. I do like to play left wing, but I’m equally comfortable in the No. 10 role so I’m happy to play either of those positions.

“We faced Fylde four times last season, drawing twice and losing twice, so I knew how good they were. I wanted to join a successful team and I’m confident that I’ve done that.

“I know Caspar Hughes from our time together at Crewe back in the day and I know of Danny Rowe because he’s the main goalscorer at this level. Now I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the lads and getting stuck into pre-season.

“I was part-time last season at Harrogate and going full-time is only going to benefit me and get me fitter and sharper on the pitch. I was full-time at Crewe but this is the first time I’ve been back to that since.

“I made ten appearances for the first-team at Crewe and I’d love to be back playing League football again, but this time with Fylde.”
