Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division promotion-chasers Chorley announced the signing of Chris Almond….
….from Skrill Premier side Southport ahead of Saturday`s 3-0 win at home against Stamford AFC.
Almond joins the Magpies for an undisclosed fee and arrives at a vital time with Josh Hine having surgery on a long-standing injury which will keep him out of action for several weeks.
Magpies boss Garry Flitcroft has been a long standing admirer of Almond and had been monitoring his situation at Southport for several months.
Negotiations between the clubs have been ongoing for a couple of weeks but finally came to a conclusion on Friday.
Almond, who can play as a centre forward or on the left wing, was leading scorer at Southport last season with thirteen goals in all competitions. Prior to joining the Sandgrounders, he had four very productive seasons at Skelmersdale United and with Ashton Athletic before that.
Meanwhile, the Magpies have also announced that striker James Dean has signed a contract that will ensure he will remain at the club until at least the end of the current season.
His form in recent week has earned rave reviews and this has not gone unnoticed elsewhere with many clubs making enquires for the striker, including side from the football league.
But the club are focused on achieving our target of winning promotion this season and Dean has a massive role to play for Chorley in the remaining sixteen league games this season and so the club moved to ensure he remains at the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium.
His contract is just reward for his performances since joining from AFC Fylde in early September. His two goals on Saturday takes his tally to fifteen goals in thirty-six appearances, but his game in not all about his goal ratio – his work rate is second to none and he creates as many opening for his team-mates as they create for him.
Dean was delighted to sign and, indeed, has already begun discussions with the club about extending his stay beyond the end of his new deal!
