Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division club Pickering Town have announced the appointment of….

….Tony Hackworth as manager with immediate effect.

There was a high standard of applications for the post and it was a difficult decision to make.

Hackworth had been in caretaker charge since Mitch Cook left the Pikes a fortnight ago and in the first two matches under his stewardship, the team recorded 6–0 and 4–0 wins against Barton Town Old Boys and Liversedge respectively and then drew 1-1 with one of his former clubs, Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North side Scarborough Athletic, in the North Riding FA Senior Cup before bowing out 5-3 on penalties.

Hackworth started his playing career with Leeds United but didn`t make an appearance for the senior side at Elland Road and moved to Notts County, where he played fifty-four times.

He then spent four years with the old Scarborough club, totalling 113 appearances, before going on to play for the likes of Whitby Town, Harrogate Town, Scarborough Athletic and Tadcaster Albion, signing for the Pikes during last season.
