Dulwich Hamlet of the Ryman Premier League are the lowest-ranked team left in the Buildbase FA Trophy and want to pull off a Lincoln City or Sutton United-type shock tomorrow afternoon.
The Hamlet have come through three qualifying rounds and a first-round replay against Royston Town to setup a last 16 tie at Vanarama National League Braintree Town, who are struggling in the league.
In the previous round, they surprised National League South side Whitehawk winning 4-1 on the south coast – and now they’re after another upset.
Struggling Braintree stand in their way and having lost just twice away from home this season, Dulwich will fancy their chances.
Lurking two points off the play-offs in eighth, Hamlet have made themselves hard to beat this season, losing only twice in their last 19 games in all competitions.
“This is a great challenge and exactly what we’re in the competition for,” said manager Gavin Rose.
“We’re looking forward to playing a team that’s in a higher division than us. We want to see how we get on against teams that are above us.
“They are a good side with established players but we have been researching and preparing right.
“We want to be the next team to produce a cup shock.”
