Law Praises His Side

Nicky Law, manager of Vanarama Conference club Alfreton Town, praised his side for turning things around during….

….Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round draw at home to Lincoln City.

The Reds trailed 1-0 at half-time to a 10th minute penalty but turned in a much better display in the second half to gain a replay on Tuesday evening.

“I think we were disappointing first half, we never got going” said Law. “I think we certainly not intentionally, ended up getting involved in a brawl.

“We always know with the size of them, and the size of us that there was only going to be one winner of that.

“As I said at half-time, we haven’t got got going, we haven’t started. We haven’t passed the ball, we haven’t worked them.

“But we knew if we could get the ball down and get to two or three passes that we would dominate the game and I think we did that second half.

“It was a scrappy first half. Unfortunately, young Tom Davies, who I thought was magnificent, lost his footing for the penalty at the top end to be fair, and we come in 1-0 down.

“He is a young lad and you can’t make those tackles in the box, you have just got to stand up and stay on your feet. So long as you learn from it, we all make mistakes and so long as you learn from it, and the better people do. I am sure Tom will. He certainly did not let it affect him because I thought second half him and Luke Graham and the back four were magnificent.

“At the end, we were really down to eight men. Bradley Wood’s hobbling about, he has potentially broke his knee cap I think, maybe. Tom Shaw had come off, Paul Clayton was on his last legs, debutant keeper James Severn has pulled his thigh. Having said that, he has got injured on ten minutes and I don’t think he has had a shot to save and it is credit to the players for that.

“We all know when you are down, you are down and things go against you and they are certainly going against us at the minute.

“We have just got to keep going and take it head on and come out the other side.”
