Law Searching for Another Keeper

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has endured a trying few days in the run up to Saturday’s testing Vanarama Conference….

…..game at Macclesfield Town.

The Reds boss will be without left-back Lathaniel Rowe-Turner through suspension after he picked up a fifth caution of the season last Saturday but more importantly, Law will also now have to bring in a fourth goalkeeper of the season after Sheffield Wednesday made an early recall on keeper Cameron Dawson from his loan spell with the Reds which was set to end after this Saturday’s game any way.

Dawson was re-called to Hillsborough on Tuesday after fellow keeper Joe Wildsmith suffered an ankle injury whilst on duty with the England under-20 squad.

Law will now be concentrating his efforts on bringing in another goalkeeper but as he continues to reshape his inconsistent squad, he has already brought in vastly experienced defender Cliff Byrne on non-contract terms.

“We have been trying to bring Cliff in for around five weeks, but have had to wait for international clearance from Ireland. You would not believe how difficult it is,” said Law.

Byrne is primarily a central defender but has also played right-back.

“He has plenty of experience and know-how and is someone who can organise, added Law. “We have been making too many wrong decisions which is costing us massively and hopefully Cliff can help us eradicate some of the errors we have been making.”
