Kyle May has signed a new contract with Conference North club Workington after rejecting an offer from…..
….Ebac Northern League neighbours Celtic Nation.
The experienced defender turned down the emerging Carlisle side’s advances because he doesn’t want to play in the Northern League, according to boss Darren Edmondson.
Celtic Nation have already prised Aaran Taylor, Gari Rowntree and Mark Boyd away from Borough Park, but Edmondson said May was never interested in quitting.
He said: “I’ve seen the rumours about Kyle going, but the truth is he’s already signed a new deal that will keep him at Workington next season.
“Kyle scribbled his signature on his contract on Saturday so those saying he’s about to quit are just rumour-mongering.
“Celtic Nation did offer him something, but Kyle was never interested in playing in the Northern League.
“To have Kyle signed for another season is great news for us. He’s one of the best defenders in the league, and has been for years.
“This is his testimonial season, and it’s fantastic news he’s staying loyal to us.”
Edmondson has also shaken hands on deals with captain Jonny Wright, Anthony Wright, Lee Andrews and Dan Wordsworth.
They are expected to sign the deals this week.
Edmondson said: “It’s important that we have a core bunch of committed players. They have shown loyalty by agreeing deals.
“We have spoken during training, and I expect them to be completed by the end of the week.”
