Evo-Stik Northern Premeir League First Division North title-favourites AFC Fylde have signed vastly experienced striker….
….Lee McEvilly from Blue Square Bet North side Colwyn Bay.
The Bootle-born 29-year-old joins the Coasters for the remainder of the season, despite interest from a number of other clubs higher up the non-League Pyramid.
McEvilly is a well-travelled striker with over 400 games much of his career in the Football League with Rochdale, Accrington Stanley and Wrexham in the Football League and in the Conference as well as winning Northern Ireland honours too.
His career in the Conference started with Cambridge United followed by spells with Barrow where he won the FA Trophy at Wembley in 2010, Grays Athletic, Burscough, Droylsden and his local side Marine.
Last season he played for local rivals Chorley before joining current Fylde boss Dave Challinor whilst he was at his former club Colwyn Bay last year.
Challinor is well aware what McEvilly can offer in attack having both played against him during his playing career and signed him when at Colwyn Bay before joining the Coasters in November.
“Lee will come here and give us something different. He gives us a Plan B if you like and some physical presence which we miss after Lee Thorpe left us earlier this season.
“He’s a proven striker at Conference level and will cause problems for defenders complimenting the attacking players we already have at the club.
“He’s a big, strong aggressive player who I remember was horrible to play against and I signed him for Colwyn Bay previously for the same reason, at times we have missed that this season.
“To have him involved as one of our own is great for us! He will play an important role now in the run-in.”
