Ryman League Division One North club Soham Town Rangers have signed a new goalkeeper to replace the departing George Lawton.

With Lawton moving to New Zealand in February, the Greens have brought in Niall Conroy from Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central strugglers Histon.

Twenty-four-year-old Conroy joined the Stutes during the summer from Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Godmanchester Rovers, having been named their player of the year last season as they finished runners-up.

He has also played for Kettering Town, St Neots Town, St Ives Town, Newmarket Town and Wisbech Town.

Twenty-five-year-old Lawton arrived at the club in October 2015 from another Thurlow Nunn League outfit, neighbours Newmarket Town. However, he missed the final two months of last season due to injury.

He returned for the opening game of this campaign, only to pick up another injury which kept him out until mid-October.

In total, he made thirty-nine appearances for the Greens, keeping nine clean sheets.

Conroy is expected to make his Soham debut on Saturday at home to Phoenix Sports.
