Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division club Trafford`s latest signing is the vastly experienced 33-year-old….

….defender Matty Doughty from NPL First Division North side Warrington Town.

A former Altrincham favourite, the left-back first joined Alty from Halifax Town in mid-June 2008, having been with the Shaymen since July 2004 – having joined from Rochdale.

He had previously also played for Chester City, for whom he signed professionally when just 16 and became a regular for two seasons, making seventy League and Conference appearances.

In 2001, he had moved to Rochdale and had a trial with Southampton but a broken leg halted the prospects of a move to Hampshire.

At Spotland he made 105 appearances in the League but another broken leg sadly hampered his career at The Shay but he still managed 131 League appearances for the club.

He made his Alty debut in August 2008 and he became one of the team’s most consistent players, as well as its penalty taker, but he sadly suffered cruciate ligament damage against Salisbury City in February 2010. This injury effectively ended his initial spell at Moss Lane.

After leaving Altrincham, he joined Witton Albion before moving on to Hyde FC.

Still struggling with injury problems, Doughty gave up football after his release from Hyde and a short spell with Warrington, but after a year, he returned to Altrincham in 2012 and went on to make a further thirty-four appearances before leaving to re-join Warrington.
