Alex Melbourne has joined Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division strugglers Stafford Rangers on loan from….
….Skrill North promotion-chasing neighbours Hednesford Town.
A product of the Wolves academy, Melbourne re-joined the Pitmen in June 2012 from Stafford`s league rivals Rushall Olympic.
Melbourne progressed through Wolves’s academy before signing as a first-year professional in the summer of 2008.
However, he would never make a first-team appearance at Molineux and was sent out on loan to Tamworth in December 2008.
After being released by Wolves in the summer of 2009, he went on trial to both Port Vale and Exeter City but eventually returned for football with AFC Wulfrunians where he ended the 2009/10 season. However, he would move on to then NPL First Division South side Rushall Olympic before the 2010/11 season, very quickly establishing himself as a fixture in the side before the Pitmen snapped him up.
His hard running down the right quickly endeared him to the fans, with Melbourne weighing in with two goals in the run-in.
After signing a new deal for the 2011/12 season, Melbourne made a surprising U-turn two days before the start of the campaign by announcing he was to join local rivals Chasetown.
After just a couple of months with the Scholars, Melbourne made the move back to Rushall, who were flying high in their first season at NPL Premier Division level.
Initially, he found it difficult to break into the Pics side that was pushing for a top five finish, but a superb run of form from January onwards saw him cement his place as a first-team starter – scoring the winner in Rushall’s 1-0 win over FC United of Manchester in March.
He re-joined Hednesford in the summer of 2012 and played a crucial part in their next season, operating both in midfield and at right-back as they secured league play-off final victory and wins in both the Staffordshire and Birmingham Senior Cups
Melbourne, 24, will be at Marston Road until 8th February.
Meanwhile, Phil Mooney has been released by Rangers and has signed for NPL First Division North side Cammell Laird, while Jack West has also been released.
